Finals concert WMC Kerkrade

zondag, 31 juli, 2022 - 20:00

From 29 to 31 July, the World Music Contest takes place in Kerkrade, The Netherlands. We're partaking again in this prestigious competition for wind bands from all over the world. We will bring our performance on 31 July at 8PM, just before the proclamation.

"Between ancient spruces and pillars of light"

During the WMC in 2022, we will perform 'Between ancient spruces and pillars of light', a musical and literary evocation on the theme of ‘the century’. We will juxtapose two works from our founding period with a world premiere written by British composer Kenneth Hesketh, composed to mark the orchestra's centenary. The chosen repertoire spans the turbulent century in which our orchestra developed and thus symbolises the history of Vooruit itself.

In addition, the program is also a clear reflection of Vooruit's artistic project, with a lot of attention for contemporary original works and challenging new transcriptions for wind band. By making such innovative artistic choices, Vooruit strives to remain a leader in the HaFaBra world.

Program

  • 'The Miraculous Mandarin', Béla Bartók
  • 'La Délaïssado', Joseph Canteloube (soprano: Laetitia Gerards)
  • 'Along Dark Paths', Kenneth Hesketh (world premiere)
  • Poetry by Mattijs Deraedt
